Welcome to the Vidourle Valley...
The Vidourle rises at the foot of the Mountain of La Fage and crosses the lower foothills of the Cevennes.
Between St Hippolyte du Fort and Sauve, the course of the Vidourle becomes troglodytic. It leads to an encounter with an unusual landscape made up of of rocks, sinkholes and caves. Built on the side of a steep plateau, Sauve la Médiévale, with its fortified doors and its staircase streets overhangs the resurgence of the river. This is the land of the nettle tree, the tree which is used to make forks.

Around Quissac, the land is hilly and covered with vineyards, olive groves and sweet-smelling areas of garrigue: the middle section of the Vidourle valley. These irregular hills were the perfect hiding place for the Camisards in the 18th century and, today, offer hikers a network of many footpaths. The riches of the shores of the Vidourle are the ideal environment for many species of animals and offer nature lovers the perfect setting for many long moments of peace and quiet.

Sommières, the medieval city, nestling at the foot of the fortress and built around a Roman bridge, is the start of the region of the "Bouvine". In the summer, the arena is the site of many high quality bull fights. The footpaths which run through the vineyards, pine and oak forests, lead walkers to discover monuments and many other unusual sites.
The Vidourle then crosses the region of the Petite Camargue, before emptying into the Mediterranean at the entrance to Le Grau du Roi.
